About this tool
Tater is a private local AI assistant designed for self-hosters, privacy-focused users, smart-home enthusiasts, and developers. It provides room-aware voice, a Music Core library with whole-home playback, stereo pairs, multi-room playback, and smart-home control, all accessible through a modern local WebUI. Tater supports private local speech recognition with experimental Qwen3-ASR and can respond using managed Qwen3-TTS, OmniVoice, Pocket TTS, or another configured voice backend. Its Music Core offers room-aware routing to stereo pairs, Sonos, AirPlay, and synchronized native satellites. For automation, Tater includes a visual event-to-action automation builder, an AI Task Runner for scheduled and recurring AI jobs with notifier delivery, whole-home broadcast destinations, stereo pairs, and optional generated background-audio scenes, plus a Home awareness automation core covering camera, doorbell, entry-sensor, snapshot, notification, and Redis-backed event history workflows. Tater also features a Network Guardian Core for inventory, source health, posture scoring, AI review, and guided security confirmations; a Personal Core for email intelligence that scans inboxes, builds a structured personal profile, optionally injects Hydra context, and supports cross-portal notifications; and a Tater Tube Core that connects to Tater Tube Server for recent viewing context, AI-selected movie and series recommendations, and spoken Tater's Picks. Integrations include Home Assistant imports for devices, rooms, actions, media players, cameras, and sensors; a Telegram bot with allowlists, DM restrictions, queued notifications, media delivery, and Verba execution; a federated Matrix client with encryption support, Markdown rendering, and full Verba compatibility; and XBMC4Xbox integration through a custom Cortana-powered Tater skin and scripts. Tater is open-source and self-hosted, has a medium learning curve, and is currently free. It is available on Android, iOS, and macOS, and offers an API.
