SKILL DETAIL

sales-radar

mbfinotti/sales-skills/sales-radar

Builds and maintains a personalized watch list of sales information sources - podcasts, newsletters, communities, benchmark reports, and sales people to follow - matched to the user's role, market, and time budget, shipped as a dated verified-source snapshot with per-source status and a freshness check that catches rebranded or dead sources. Covers B2B SaaS and B2C high-ticket as separate ecosystems. Use whenever the user mentions sales newsletters, sales podcasts, who to follow in sales, sales communities, staying current in sales, or refreshing a reading list, even without the word radar. Do NOT use for career or interview prep (mbfinotti/sales-skills@sales-career).

# Books

Foundational and recent B2B sales books, confirmed by title/author/year. No purchase or affiliate links - a book's title and author are enough to find it through whatever channel the user prefers.

## Foundational

- **SPIN Selling** - Neil Rackham (1988). The root reference for modern discovery frameworks: Situation-Problem-Implication-Need-payoff questioning for large-account sales.
- **The Challenger Sale** - Matthew Dixon & Brent Adamson (2011). The standard reference for complex B2B selling: "teach, tailor, take control" insight-selling.
- **New Sales. Simplified.** - Mike Weinberg (2012). New-business/prospecting fundamentals for reps building pipeline from zero.
- **Cracking the Sales Management Code** - Jason Jordan (2012). Connects sales activities to metrics a manager can actually coach against.

## Negotiation and discovery

- **Never Split the Difference** - Chris Voss & Tahl Raz (2016). Tactical empathy applied to deal-closing and pricing conversations; see Black Swan Group in sources.md for the same author's cross-ecosystem podcast/blog.
- **Gap Selling** - Keenan (2018). Problem-centric selling: diagnose the current-vs-future-state gap before pitching.
- **MEDDICC** - Andy Whyte (2020). Enterprise/complex-sales qualification methodology, same brand as Masters of MEDDICC in sources.md's podcast table.

## Recent

- **The JOLT Effect** - Matthew Dixon & Ted McKenna (2022). Addresses buyer indecision as the primary deal-killer; a Challenger follow-up.
- **Sell Without Selling Out** - Andy Paul (2022). An authenticity-first counter to high-pressure tactics.

Every title above is foundational or well-cited enough to survive a fast market; none is B2C-specific. If the user's goal is B2C high-ticket craft, treat this list as B2B-transferable principle, not a vertical match - no equivalent B2C-specific book canon was verified in this pass.

# Curation method detail

Contents: the numeric budget-fill arithmetic, the full freshness-check reasoning, and the re-ranking heuristics SKILL.md compresses to a summary.

## Fill the budget, then re-rank

Fill the declared effort ceiling top-down from the efficiency order in SKILL.md, then stop. Only for that arithmetic, turn the magnitudes into numbers:

- Newsletter issue: ~5 minutes.
- Benchmark report: ~20 minutes once a quarter (~2 minutes a week).
- Podcast episode: ~35 minutes.
- Live show: ~50 minutes.
- Capped community habit: ~20 minutes a week.
- Capped feed skim: ~10 minutes a week.

The ranking never depends on those numbers. They exist to check a list against a budget, and a user who reads twice as fast changes every one of them without changing the order.

## Re-rank against what you already know about the user

The default assumes attention is uniform, and it rarely is. Before presenting anything, adjust for:

- A commute or a gym habit makes audio nearly free, so podcasts and live shows jump to the top for that user. Interview question 6 (mediums actually consumed) is what surfaces it.
- A community already joined, or a membership already paid, starts at zero cost and outranks a newsletter that still has to earn a subscription.
- A user who already reads every newsletter in their niche has exhausted that rung; their next marginal minute is worth more in a community or a benchmark report.
- A vertical with little benchmark reporting - most of B2C high-ticket - moves benchmark reports down for lack of supply, not lack of value.

This ordering is a default, not a law. It shifts with context and with who executes it: a rep who retains nothing from audio and a rep who retains nothing from text should not receive the same list.

## Freshness check, full reasoning

The dominant failure mode in this field is silent brand migration, not shutdown - see sources.md's Graveyard table for named cases (Sales Hacker to GTMnow, Blissful Prospecting to Outbound Squad, Outreach.io to Outreach.ai). Old URLs redirect or die quietly, so "the page loads" proves nothing in either direction.

If you can browse or fetch the web, verify each source this way:

1. Fetch the source's URL and inspect where it lands. A redirect to a different brand means migration, not death - record the new identity. A loading page is not proof of life until you see dated recent content.
2. Confirm the fetched page belongs to the entity you meant before recording any verdict. Domain collisions are real: lookalike domains get resold or belong to unrelated companies in other industries (see the Bridge Group caution in sources.md - bridgegroupinc.com is the research firm, bridgegroup.com is an unrelated wealth manager).
3. Check podcasts on the podcast host or RSS feed, never the company homepage. Company-affiliated shows sit on lead-gen landing pages that publish no episode archive.
4. Treat an empty personal newsletter platform as inconclusive about the person. Creators spin up a newsletter, post twice, and move their real cadence elsewhere (Josh Braun and Kyle Coleman's dead Substacks are the named example) - check a second channel before calling them inactive.
5. Treat a failed fetch on YouTube, Reddit, LinkedIn, or X as unknown, not dead. These platforms block plain fetches; a verdict there needs an authenticated browser session or a second source.
6. Record a last-verified date on every entry you touch. A list without per-source dates rots silently.
7. Never invent a subscriber, download, or member count. Report numbers only with their origin ("self-claimed", "third-party tracker"), and write "not stated" when none is published. Self-reported community counts routinely exceed third-party estimates several-fold (RevGenius's own 60k-100k claim against a ~17k third-party tracker figure is the named example in sources.md).

If you cannot browse the web, build the list from the snapshot alone: state the snapshot date prominently, keep each source's recorded status and last-verified date, and tell the user which entries deserve a manual re-check before they invest time.

# People to follow

**Snapshot date: 2026-09-08 (LinkedIn), 2026-09-10 (X/Twitter).** LinkedIn is decisively the primary B2B sales platform; X is secondary and declining for this audience but still used by a subset of these practitioners. Every LinkedIn URL below was confirmed live via a logged-in LinkedIn search at snapshot date - each `href` was opened and read, not guessed from a name. X/Twitter handles were verified via live search against each person's own site, podcast, or cross-referenced structured data (schema.org `sameAs`, Crunchbase, own bio links) - never guessed from a name match alone. Four people carry no X/Twitter entry because no verifiable personal account was found: Jason Bay, Becc Holland, Kyle Coleman, Kevin "KD" Dorsey. Mark Kosoglow's account matches his identity but shows no activity since 2015 - treat as inactive, not a live follow target.

Cap what you hand the user at two or three names and a ten-minute skim (see SKILL.md § Rank sources by attention efficiency) - a feed has no natural end, so it expands to fill whatever budget is left.

**Richard Harris is a common name with several unrelated public profiles.** The entry below is confirmed as the Harris Consulting Group founder via his own site's structured data, a GTMnow podcast contact link matching the same LinkedIn URL, and a consistent `rharris415` handle spanning LinkedIn, X, and Instagram - no other sales-industry Richard Harris was found who could plausibly be confused with him.

# Sales source snapshot

**Snapshot date: 2026-08-26**, with a 2026-09-08 pass adding exact URLs to existing entries and correcting three renames (INBOUND to UNBOUND, "GTM Summit" to GTM2026, the Sales Confidence domain), and a 2026-09-11 spot-check re-confirming the two highest-visibility conference entries (GTM2026: Sept 28-Oct 1 2026, NYC, live registration; UNBOUND: Sept 16-18 2026, Boston, sold out) still current. Scope: the information ecosystem of the sales profession, both B2B SaaS and B2C high-ticket. People are in [references/people-to-follow.md](./people-to-follow.md), books in [references/books.md](./books.md), and YouTube channels in [references/video-channels.md](./video-channels.md) - each split out of this file to keep it scannable.

Sections run in the attention-efficiency order set in SKILL.md - cheapest-per-outcome medium first, most expensive last. Section order and the stated ranking never disagree. Each medium opens with what an entry costs in attention and what it buys, plus the rows that deviate from their medium's price.

## Status vocabulary

- `verified-active` - direct, dated evidence of recent activity at the snapshot date (noted per row).
- `unverified` - no direct evidence either way: blocked fetch, undated page, or reported active without dated proof. **Not** a death verdict.
- `likely-dead` - fetched and found nothing newer than ~12 months, or the domain 404s, parks, or fails DNS.

Structural caveat: YouTube (consent wall), Reddit (hard block), and LinkedIn/X (bot redirects) are unverifiable by plain fetch. An `unverified` on those mediums reflects tooling, not source health - treat a failed fetch there as unknown, never as dead.

Audience numbers appear only where publicly stated, with origin labeled. "not stated" means no published figure exists; never substitute an estimate.

Anything ruled out - dead, migrated, or unrecommendable without re-verification - lives in the Graveyard at the bottom and appears in no table above it. A ruled-out source parked at the foot of a live menu gets recommended anyway.

### Newsletters and written sources (B2B)

- **Costs:** minutes per issue, with a hard end.
- **Buys:** a phrase or a play liftable into tomorrow's email.
- **Deviations:** Winning by Design and the vendor blogs publish rolling long-form, closer to a podcast episode per piece. 30MPC and Leslie Venetz are the shortest reads here and the best fit for a sub-30-minute ceiling.

### Benchmark and data sources (B2B)

- **Costs:** minutes, once a quarter or a year, which amortizes to near-zero weekly.
- **Buys:** a defensible number for a quota, comp, or board conversation.
- **Deviations:** RepVue's continuous index is a two-minute lookup and the cheapest row here. The full Bridge Group and Ebsta reports run closer to an hour if read properly rather than skimmed for the headline.

- **Bridge Group:** transparent, consistent, no conflicting product. A credible anchor.
- **RepVue:** largest rep-reported sample, self-selection bias applies. A credible anchor.
- **Ebsta x Pavilion, Gong Labs:** methodologically real but double as lead magnets. Read the data, discount the framing.
- **Salesforce:** a survey of opinion, directional only.

Never anchor on one source: they diverge by more than 15% on key metrics, so triangulate at least three before setting quota or comp.

Market-wide signal: quota attainment collapsed to ~43% and win rates to ~19% in 2025, from 55-65% and ~29% earlier in the decade.

Bridge Group caution:

- The research firm is **bridgegroupinc.com**.
- bridgegroup.com is an unrelated wealth-management company.

### Podcasts and shows (B2B)

- **Costs:** tens of minutes per episode.
- **Buys:** a full framework with the reasoning left intact, the thing a newsletter compresses out.
- **Deviations:** The Advanced Selling Podcast is short-format and the cheapest row here. Sell Better's near-daily live shows are the most expensive, at most of an hour on someone else's clock. 30MPC publishes multiple episodes a week, so a user on a 30-minute ceiling takes one episode, never the feed.

This whole medium is close to free for a user with a commute or a gym habit. Promote it accordingly.

### People to follow (B2B)

- **Costs:** minutes, but unbounded. A feed has no end, so it expands to fill whatever budget is left.
- **Buys:** a running read on how the market's language is shifting.

Cap it explicitly, at two or three names and a ten-minute skim, or it eats the budget the rest of this list needs.

LinkedIn is decisively the primary B2B platform, and X is secondary and declining. Full roster with confirmed LinkedIn URLs, grouped by specialty: [references/people-to-follow.md](./people-to-follow.md).

### Communities (B2B)

- **Costs:** tens of minutes a week, recurring, with no end state.
- **Buys:** an answer no publisher has written up, and the peers who answer the next one.
- **Deviations:** r/sales is skimmable on demand and the cheapest entry here. Pavilion's 707 events a year is a standing job rather than a subscription, and costs nothing extra to someone whose membership is already paid.

### Conferences (B2B)

- **Costs:** days, plus travel.
- **Buys:** relationships and off-record numbers that exist in no published form.

Budget this as an annual block of days, never against a weekly minutes ceiling. Scored per week it always loses, which is exactly the starvation SKILL.md warns about.

**GTM2026** (attendgtm.com) - Pavilion's flagship, formerly branded "GTM Summit". Sept 28-Oct 1 2026, NYC, invite-only. `verified-active`. **SaaStr AI Annual** (saastrannual.com) - May 11-12 2027, San Mateo. `verified-active`. **UNBOUND** (unbound.hubspot.com) - HubSpot's rebrand of INBOUND; confirmed via 301 redirect from inbound.com. Sept 16-18 2026, Boston (sold out). `verified-active`. **Sales 3.0 Conference** (sales30conf.com) - Selling Power-run series; virtual AI Sales Summit Sept 2-4 2026, virtual Sales Training and Enablement Summit Dec 2-4 2026, plus historical in-person editions. `verified-active`. Each pairs a real practitioner draw with heavy vendor sponsorship.

### UK and Europe

Europe overwhelmingly consumes the US sources above. Genuinely distinct:

- **Sales Confidence** (salesconfidence.com - not `.co.uk`): UK SaaS sales community, James Ski. Confirmed via its own X account and a published contact address. `verified-active`.
- **Institute of Sales Professionals:** UK professional body, Ofqual-accredited qualifications, 100+ free member webinars/year. `unverified`.
- **SaaStock** (saastock.com): Dublin-anchored European SaaS conference, also running a US edition (SaaStock USA, April 15-16 2026, Austin). `verified-active`.

No European benchmark report matches the US ones' standing.

- **Jeremy Miner / 7th Level** (7thlevelhq.com) - NEPQ methodology; self-styled "largest B2C sales training company in the world and 5th largest in B2B", the clearest single bridge between the ecosystems. Paid-course business model, but reads as a training operation rather than pure hype. `verified-active` (org site).
- **Grant Cardone / 10X** - cross-vertical motivational brand both worlds know; most serious B2B practitioners treat it as motivation, not tactics. Primarily course-selling and info-marketing layered on a real-estate business - not a neutral practitioner resource. `verified-active` - 10X Sales Manager Workshop Sep 10-11 2026; 10X Growth Con Apr 2-4 2026.

## B2C high-ticket ecosystem

A genuinely separate world: single-call closes, in-home/retail settings, commission-only comp. It runs on:

- YouTube (top-of-funnel).
- Facebook Groups (community).
- Paid coaching/conferences (monetization).

Almost nothing on Slack or Substack, and barely any benchmark reporting.

Many of its best-known names are primarily course-sellers and info-marketers rather than neutral practitioner resources. That is stated per row below, neutrally, because it affects whether the source is worth the user's time. Reddit (r/realtors, r/insurance, r/solar) is the skeptical counter-channel where practitioners critique the coaching-guru economy.

The efficiency order shifts here, for a supply reason rather than a value one. Trade-association data is the cheapest high-value entry, while the figures below trade almost entirely in video and events, so this ecosystem's ranking starts one rung lower than B2B's.

### Benchmark and data sources (B2C)

- **Costs:** minutes, once a quarter or a year.
- **Buys:** market-level ground truth that the creator economy around it does not publish.

No rep-level performance benchmarking (quota, ramp, win rate) exists as a published product in B2C - that absence is itself a finding. The credible data is trade-association market data, far more rigorous than anything the creator economy publishes:

### Figures and brands (B2C)

- **Costs:** tens of minutes per video and days per event. This ecosystem's primary mediums are the two most expensive ones.
- **Buys:** vertical-specific tactics and, at the events, the peer network that carries most of a B2C rep's actual deal flow.
- **Deviations:** the podcasts (The D2D Podcast, Stay Paid) price like any podcast. The flagship conferences price like conferences and belong in an annual block.

## Graveyard - dead, renamed, merged, migrated, or ruled out

The pattern to internalize: brands here migrate silently far more often than they shut down. Old URLs redirect or rot quietly. Everything below is excluded from every table above - do not reintroduce a row from here into a recommendation without a fresh browser-based verification.

Reversed on re-verification with search access (2026-09) - move these three into the live recommendation table, not this ruled-out one:

- **Masters of MEDDICC (Andy Whyte)** - confirmed real and actively producing episodes under the MEDDICC brand's own media channel (meddicc.buzzsprout.com; distributed to Apple Podcasts, Spotify, iHeart). Recent named episodes with named guests (CROs at Microlise, StarTree, Sales Collective). `verified-active`.
- **Andy Elliott / The Elliott Group** - the correct domain is `elliott247.com`, not andyelliott.com or theandyelliott.com. The Elliott Group is active, Scottsdale AZ-based, with an active YouTube channel (@AndyElliottOfficial) and Instagram (@officialandyelliott). `verified-active`.
- **SDR Chronicles (Morgan J Ingram)** - the personal-domain dead end was the wrong lead; his current vehicle is a YouTube channel under the same "SDR Chronicles" name, plus a LinkedIn Live show ("Muffins with Morgan"), through his role as Director of Sales Execution and Evolution at JB Sales Training (JBarrows). `verified-active` under the corrected identifiers.

**Noise dressed as signal:**

- The "best sales podcasts" listicle genre (vendor SEO).
- Vendor benchmark framing (real data, self-serving conclusions).
- The B2C funnel where free content exists to sell a conference ticket that sells a coaching program. The information can still be real, but the business model is the product.

# YouTube channels

**Snapshot date: 2026-09-08 (channel identity), 2026-09-10 (upload activity).** YouTube's consent wall blocks a full-page fetch, so every channel below is confirmed by its resolved page title existing, not by full upload-history verification - the same structural caveat sources.md already states for LinkedIn, X, and Reddit. A live-search check on 2026-09-10 added recent-activity signal for some channels (see each entry); where that check could not confirm activity, the channel stays `unverified` for recent-activity purposes even though its existence is confirmed.

- **Morgan J Ingram** - youtube.com/@morganjingram - SDR/outbound tactics from JB Sales' Director of Sales Execution and Evolution; matches the "SDR Chronicles" identity sources.md's graveyard-reversal section already confirmed active. Channel identity confirmed; recent upload cadence still `unverified`, though his X account posts sales content within days of the 2026-09-10 check.
- **Ian Koniak** - youtube.com/@IanKoniak - Enterprise AE coaching, bite-sized lessons; same person as the LinkedIn entry in people-to-follow.md. Confirmed active: he stated on LinkedIn, days before the 2026-09-10 check, that he has posted a video every week for six years.
- **Victor Antonio** - youtube.com/@VictorAntonioLive - Sales psychology, value-based selling, pricing/discount defense. Channel identity confirmed; recent upload cadence still `unverified`.
- **Kevin Dorsey** - youtube.com/@kevindorsey - Sales-leadership mindset and peak-performance coaching ("Live Better Sell Better"). Most recent episode found via live search dates to March 2024 - this may reflect a stale search index rather than an actual slowdown, so treat as `unverified`, not confirmed-dormant.
- **Josh Braun** - youtube.com/@joshbraunsales (corrected from @JoshBraun, which is not his active channel) - Consultative "sorting not selling" approach; same graveyard caveat as his dead Substack (see sources.md). Confirmed active: 222 videos, ~4K subscribers, bio states weekly uploads, matches his own site's December 2025 update.
- **pclub** - youtube.com/@pclub - this is Chris Orlob's channel under its pre-rebrand name. His show has rebranded to "The Caliber Show" (listed "Updated Daily" on Apple Podcasts), matching the pclub.io-to-Caliber (caliber.io) company rebrand, and his X bio now reads "CEO at Caliber" - the rebrand itself is confirmed. A distinct Caliber-branded YouTube channel URL was not confirmed; verify the current upload destination directly before recommending.

No B2C-specific YouTube channel was verified in this pass distinct from the figures and brands already covered in sources.md's B2C table (Sam Taggart, Cody Askins, Tom Ferry, Ryan Serhant, and others already run YouTube as their primary platform there).

# Watch list examples

One worked example of the right output shape, then the tempting wrong shape. Both draw on the 2026-08-26 snapshot in the sources reference - the positive example shows how much of that snapshot should survive filtering (very little), and the negative example shows what happens when it all does.

## Worked example - the right shape

Interview answers behind it:

- Role: mid-market B2B SaaS AE.
- Deals: ~$40k ACV, 6-8 week cycles.
- Time budget: one hour a week.
- Medium: mostly podcast audio on the commute, plus one email newsletter.
- Already follows: 30 Minutes to President's Club.
- Current goal: discovery and negotiation.

---

### Your sales radar - mid-market SaaS AE, ~1 hour/week

Built 2026-08-26 from the 2026-08-26 source snapshot. Six sources; anything more would blow your hour.

Ordering note: the default puts newsletters and benchmark reports ahead of podcasts on attention efficiency. Your commute reverses that - audio costs you time you were spending anyway, so a weekly podcast leads this list and a second newsletter did not make it.

**Sharpen discovery (core, weekly - ~40 min)**

1. **Make It Happen Mondays** - John Barrows (JB Sales). Podcast, weekly. Best for: AE-level discovery and fundamentals; the rare trainer r/sales vouches for as non-guru. Fits your commute slot. Status: `verified-active` (org site; episode dates live on the podcast feed, not the website). Last verified 2026-08-26.
2. **Leslie Venetz's newsletter** - Substack, 2-3x/week; read one per week. Best for: discovery and outbound messaging craft you can lift into your own emails. Your one email subscription. Status: `verified-active` (posts through Aug 24 2026). Last verified 2026-08-26.

**Level up negotiation (rotate in - ~15 min)**

3. **Chris Voss / Black Swan Group** - articles and podcast, irregular cadence. Best for: negotiation technique; one of the few sources that genuinely serves both B2B and B2C. Dip in when a deal reaches pricing. Status: `verified-active` (undated but current site). Last verified 2026-08-26.

**Stay current on the market (monthly - ~5 min)**

4. **The GTM Newsletter (GTMnow)** - weekly; skim once a month. Best for: where the broader GTM world is moving, without living on LinkedIn. Status: `verified-active` (posts through Aug 25 2026). Last verified 2026-08-26.
5. **RepVue Cloud Sales Index** - quarterly. Best for: a reality check on quota attainment and comp before your next review cycle (Q4 2025: 43.83% attainment). Status: `verified-active` (mid-2026 update). Last verified 2026-08-26.

**Peer sanity check (as needed)**

6. **r/sales** - community. Best for: unfiltered practitioner consensus and gut checks on tools or advice; not a tactics source. Status: `unverified` - the platform blocks automated checks, so this is a tooling limitation, not a health signal; widely reported active. Last checked 2026-08-26.

Deliberately excluded: **30MPC** (you already follow it - keep it as your anchor), **Outbound Squad** (overlaps Barrows for your current goal; revisit if you move upmarket into outbound-heavy territory), **Pavilion** (paid and leadership-oriented; worth it when you manage reps).

What an hour a week cannot buy: a community you actually participate in, and a conference. Both rank top on value and bottom on efficiency, so a minutes budget never reaches them. Revisit both the moment your goal becomes a comp negotiation or a move up - at that point they carry information no newsletter publishes, and a conference gets budgeted as two days once a year rather than out of this hour.

**Coverage:** 6 sources across 4 mediums (podcast, newsletter, articles, community) plus 1 quarterly benchmark. Estimated cost ~60 min/week against your 1-hour budget. Snapshot 2026-08-26: 5 of 6 `verified-active`, 1 `unverified` (labeled above). Suggested re-check: quarterly, starting with the unverified entry.

## Negative example - the wrong shape

The same interview answers can tempt an agent into producing this. Everything below is wrong even though most individual names are real:

> ### The Ultimate Sales Resource List - 40+ sources every rep needs!
>
> **Podcasts:** 30 Minutes to President's Club, Make It Happen Mondays, Sales Gravy (470,000 listeners!), Outbound Squad (50k subscribers), The Advanced Selling Podcast, Revenue Builders, Topline, The Sales Leadership Podcast, Masters of MEDDICC, SDR Chronicles, Win Rate, The Brutal Truth About Sales, The D2D Podcast, Stay Paid…
>
> **Newsletters:** GTMnow, Sales Hacker, Leslie Venetz, Josh Braun's Substack, Kyle Coleman's Substack…
>
> **People:** Jason Bay, Grant Cardone, Andy Elliott, Jeremy Miner, Ian Koniak, Tom Ferry…
>
> All of these are active and highly recommended - subscribe to as many as you can!

Why this fails:

- **It's a catalogue, not a watch list.** Forty-plus sources for a user with one hour a week is a filtering job handed back to the person who asked you to do the filtering.
- **It resurrects sources the snapshot already ruled out.** SDR Chronicles, Sales Hacker, Josh Braun's and Kyle Coleman's Substacks, Masters of MEDDICC and Andy Elliott all sit in the snapshot's graveyard and appear in no live table. Pulling them back up as recommendations is exactly what the graveyard exists to prevent, and "all of these are active" is false.
- **It has no ordering at all**, so the reader picks by row position. Even the ranked version of this failure would be wrong if it led with the cheapest rows: six newsletters fit any budget and would still miss the negotiation coaching this user asked for.
- **It invents and misattributes numbers.** "470,000 listeners" conflates Sales Gravy's newsletter subscriber claim with its podcast audience (not stated); "50k subscribers" for Outbound Squad appears nowhere in the snapshot - it was made up to look authoritative.
- **It mixes the two ecosystems into one flat list.** Tom Ferry, Andy Elliott, and The D2D Podcast are B2C high-ticket sources with near-zero relevance to a mid-market SaaS AE, filed next to 30MPC as if interchangeable.
- **It ignores what the user already follows** (30MPC is recommended back to them), **ignores their goal** (nothing is tied to discovery or negotiation), and **carries no statuses, no last-verified dates, no snapshot date** - so it starts rotting silently the moment it's delivered.
- **It hides source character.** Grant Cardone and Andy Elliott are primarily course-sellers; recommending them without saying so misrepresents what the user's time buys.

# Sales Radar

You are a curator of the sales profession's information ecosystem. Lead with a short, ranked, verified-link watch list matched to the user's role and time budget - never a feed of headlines, and never a bare name with no way to click through.

## Two ecosystems, not one

B2B SaaS sales and B2C high-ticket sales run on almost entirely separate sources, platforms, and people:

- **B2B:** LinkedIn, Slack communities, Substack newsletters, benchmark reports.
- **B2C** (real estate, automotive, insurance, solar/door-to-door, home improvement): YouTube, Facebook Groups, paid coaching funnels. Skews much harder toward course-sellers and personal brands.

Never hand a B2C rep a B2B list with the labels swapped, or vice versa. A handful of sources genuinely serve both (Sales Gravy, Chris Voss, Jeremy Miner). [references/sources.md](references/sources.md) marks each of these explicitly rather than filing them under one side.

## Start here

Roughly twenty verified B2B sources, one line each, grouped by medium. Every entry below has a live, checked link at the snapshot date (2026-09-08). This is a representative top slice, not the deliverable itself - always run the Interview and Build the watch list below before handing anything to a user, and pull the rest of the inventory (B2C ecosystem, benchmark reports, methodology grading, the graveyard) from the full snapshot.

## Full source snapshot

The list above is a slice. Read [references/sources.md](references/sources.md) before building any watch list - the full dated inventory of both ecosystems, with status labels, evidence, and the graveyard of dead/renamed/migrated sources. [references/people-to-follow.md](references/people-to-follow.md), [references/books.md](references/books.md), and [references/video-channels.md](references/video-channels.md) hold the fuller roster per medium; [references/curation-method.md](references/curation-method.md) holds the ranking arithmetic this file compresses below.

## Interview

Ask one question at a time. Offer multiple-choice options where possible. Cap the interview at eight questions; skip any the conversation already answered and infer the rest.

1. Role and seniority: SDR/BDR, AE, frontline manager, VP/CRO, founder who sells, or other?
2. Market: B2B (what deal size and cycle length?), B2C high-ticket (which vertical - real estate, automotive, insurance, solar/door-to-door, home improvement?), or both?
3. Effort ceiling: how many minutes a week will they actually spend - under 30, 30-60, 60-180, or more? Take the number they will defend on a bad week, not the aspirational one.
4. Deadline: is there a date this has to be working by - a QBR, a comp review, a new territory, a job search - or is it open-ended?
5. One-off catch-up or standing habit: get current once, or install a routine they keep running?
6. Mediums actually consumed: podcast audio (commute, gym), newsletters/text, video, live shows, or community lurking/posting?
7. What do they already follow? The list must add, not repeat.
8. What are they trying to get better at right now: prospecting/cold calling, discovery, negotiation/closing, leadership/coaching, comp and market data, or a career move?

Questions 3, 4 and 5 move the ranking, so ask them before selecting anything:

- The effort ceiling sets how far down the order you fill. Under 30 minutes a week buys newsletters and one benchmark report, and nothing else.
- A hard deadline promotes the fast-acting sources: a benchmark report plus two newsletters make someone current inside a week, while a community and a conference pay off in quarters. An open-ended answer promotes the slow ones.
- A one-off catch-up promotes benchmark reports and newsletter archives, which can be binged. A standing habit promotes recurring sources, and only a standing habit justifies a community at all.

## Rank sources by attention efficiency

Attention is the only budget this skill spends. Never price a source in money: a subscription the user already pays for costs nothing extra to read, and an hour-long episode costs an hour whether the show is free or not.

Price each medium as an order of magnitude, never an exact figure:

| Medium | Attention cost | What it buys |
| ---------------- | -------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Newsletter | Minutes per issue, with a hard end | A phrase or a play liftable into tomorrow's email |
| Benchmark report | Minutes, once a quarter or a year | A defensible number for a quota, comp, or board conversation |
| Podcast episode | Tens of minutes | A full framework with the reasoning left intact |
| A person's feed | Minutes, but unbounded - no natural stopping point | A running read on how the market's language is shifting |
| Live show | Most of an hour, on someone else's clock | What a podcast buys, plus questions answered in real time |
| Community | Tens of minutes a week, recurring, no end state | An answer no publisher has written up, and the peers who answer the next one |
| Conference | Days, plus travel | Relationships and off-record numbers that exist in no published form |

Lead with the best ratio, not the cheapest option - cheap and efficient are different orderings, and only the ratio answers "what first":

- efficiency: newsletters > benchmark reports > podcasts > people's feeds > live shows == communities > conferences
- attention cost, most expensive first: conferences > communities == live shows > podcasts > people's feeds > newsletters == benchmark reports
- value, highest first: conferences > communities > benchmark reports > podcasts > live shows > newsletters > people's feeds

Both ties are real equalities, not dodged decisions:

- `communities == live shows` on cost and on efficiency: both are synchronous slots on someone else's clock with no archive to skim, and both buy peer contact rather than published material, so neither leads.
- `newsletters == benchmark reports` on cost: both are read-and-done text with a hard end, and the report's longer read is offset by its far rarer cadence.

### What this order starves

Conferences and communities top the value axis and bottom the efficiency axis, so a minutes-per-week budget filled purely by ratio never buys either - and those two are the only sources producing relationships and unpublished numbers. Promote them anyway when any of these holds:

- The goal is a career move, a comp negotiation, or a first peer network. Published sources do not carry that information at all.
- The question is one no publisher has answered: a niche vertical, an unbenchmarked tool, "is this quota normal at my stage".
- The user is isolated - solo founder, only rep, first sales hire - where peer contact is the entire point.
- The user already belongs. A community already joined and a conference already budgeted cost nothing extra to use.

Budget a conference as an annual block of days, never against the weekly minutes. Scoring it per week is what buries it.

### Fill the budget, then re-rank

Fill the declared effort ceiling top-down from the efficiency order, then stop. Re-rank against what you already know about the user first - a commute makes audio nearly free, an already-paid membership starts at zero cost, a niche with thin benchmark reporting moves that rung down for lack of supply, not lack of value. This ordering is a default, not a law. Full numeric arithmetic and the re-ranking heuristics in detail: [references/curation-method.md](references/curation-method.md).

## Build the watch list

1. Read [references/sources.md](references/sources.md) - the dated, verified snapshot. Select from it; go outside it only when the user names a source it lacks.
2. Filter by ecosystem first (B2B, B2C vertical, or both), then by medium fit, then by the user's current goal.
3. Order what survives by the attention-efficiency ranking above, then within each medium by practitioner signal over marketing reach: sources working reps recommend unprompted beat sources with the biggest claimed audiences. The snapshot flags which is which, and flags course-funnel brands whose business model is the product.
4. Cap the list: 5-8 sources for an hour a week or less, 10-12 absolute maximum. Forty sources is a catalogue, not a watch list.
5. Exclude what the user already follows, and drop outright anything their answers rule out - wrong ecosystem, a medium they never consume, a paid community for someone with no budget. Name deliberate exclusions in one line each so the user knows they were considered, not missed. Never park a ruled-out source at the bottom as a lower priority; it gets subscribed to anyway.
6. Run the freshness check (below) on any selected source not marked `verified-active` in the snapshot. Carry each source's status label into the output - never present an `unverified` source as confirmed active.
7. Group the final list by the job it does for the user (sharpen a skill, stay current, benchmark comp, find peers), never as one flat list per medium. Order the groups, and the entries inside each group, by the efficiency ranking, so the page carries one order rather than two.
8. If your harness has persistent memory, store the finished list, the interview answers, and the snapshot date, so a later refresh starts from the last known-good state instead of zero.

## Freshness check

The dominant failure mode in this field is silent brand migration, not shutdown - GTMnow, Outbound Squad, and Outreach.ai each replaced a prior brand without the old URL simply dying (see the Graveyard in sources.md). Old URLs redirect or rot quietly, so "the page loads" proves nothing in either direction.

If you can browse or fetch the web, run each selected source not already `verified-active` through this check: fetch and confirm where it lands (a redirect means migration, not death), confirm the landed page is actually the entity you meant, check podcasts on their own feed rather than a company homepage, treat an empty personal newsletter as inconclusive about the person rather than proof of inactivity, treat a blocked fetch on YouTube/Reddit/LinkedIn/X as unknown rather than dead, and record a last-verified date on everything you touch. Never invent an audience number - report only what's published, with its origin, and write "not stated" otherwise. Full reasoning and named examples: [references/curation-method.md](references/curation-method.md).

If you cannot browse the web, build the list from the snapshot alone: state the snapshot date prominently, keep each source's recorded status, and tell the user which entries deserve a manual re-check before they invest time.

## Output shape

Deliver a watch list grouped by job-to-be-done, with each entry carrying:

- What it is and who runs it.
- Medium and cadence (so the user can slot it into their week).
- What it is best for, in one line tied to their stated goal.
- Status (`verified-active`, `unverified`, or `likely-dead`) and last-verified date.

Close with coverage stats:

- Number of sources.
- Mediums covered.
- Estimated weekly time cost against the stated budget.
- Snapshot date.
- How many entries are verified versus unverified.

See [references/watch-list-example.md](references/watch-list-example.md) for a worked example and the tempting wrong shape to avoid.

Success criteria:

- The list fits the stated time budget.
- Every entry carries a status and a last-verified date.
- Nothing the user already follows reappears as a recommendation.

## Periodic refresh

Sources in this field migrate or die within months, so a one-time list decays. If your harness supports scheduled or recurring routines, offer to install a quarterly re-check that reruns the freshness check on the user's list and reports only the changes: migrations, deaths, and status upgrades or downgrades.

If it does not, give the user a manual routine instead: every quarter, re-verify each entry with the freshness-check steps above, starting with entries whose last-verified date is oldest and any marked `unverified`. Drop a benchmark source that skips two publication cycles.

## Common failure modes

- Dumping the whole source catalogue back at the user, unranked and unfiltered. The snapshot is raw material, not the deliverable.
- Ranking by cheapest instead of by ratio, so the list comes back as six newsletters and never buys the one outcome the user asked for.
- Letting the efficiency order silently veto a conference or a community for a user whose stated goal only those two can serve.
- Upgrading an `unverified` source to "active" in your own prose because it is famous. Fame is not verification.
- Inventing or rounding audience numbers to make an entry look authoritative. "not stated" is the correct value.
- Treating a redirect as dead, or a loading page as alive, without checking identity and dated content.
- Filing a dual-ecosystem source (Sales Gravy, Chris Voss, Jeremy Miner) under only one side, or mixing the two ecosystems into one undifferentiated list.
- Recommending a course-funnel personal brand as if it were a neutral practitioner resource. Recommend it when it fits, but state its character plainly.
- Constructing a plausible-looking URL from memory instead of pulling one from the snapshot or stating the source lacks a verified link.

## Invocation examples

- "Build me a sales radar - I'm an SDR at a seed-stage SaaS startup with 30 minutes a week."
- "Which sales newsletters are actually worth a CRO's time?"
- "I sell solar door-to-door. Who are the sales people to follow that aren't just selling courses?"
- "Re-verify the watch list you built me in March."
